Celebrate the 4th of July with high protein, vegan burgers that resemble meat in taste. Made with TVP and spices, these burgers are easy to prepare and can be made gluten-free. The recipe also includes a delicious burger sauce to elevate the flavor.
In a large bowl, add the TVP and broth. Hydrate for 10 minutes.
In another smaller bowl, add the spices, mayo, miso, soy sauce, apple sauce and flour and mix together.
Once the TVP has absorbed most of the broth, add the mayo mixture into the larger bowl with TVP. Mix to combine.
Add the bread crumbs 1/4 cup at a time until it can shape easily into a ball. Push to flatten. You should get 4-6 decently sized patties.
In a small bowl, add everything for the burger sauce and mix to combine.
Heat a cast iron on medium heat with 2 tbsp of oil. Place the patties on the cast iron pan and cook until golden, about 5 minutes.
Flip and cook for another 2 minutes. Place your favorite cheese on top, add a splash of water and cover with a lid to create steam. This will melt the cheese.
Remove and build your burger. Repeat until all the burgers are cooked.
